Visit Philadelphia takes over New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall with “Come for Philadelphia. Stay for Philly.” ads
PHILADELPHIA, March 20, 2023 – Visit Philadelphia® today announced the debut of its “Come for Philadelphia. Stay for Philly.” leisure marketing campaign in New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall, welcoming over 7.8 million people per month. Four massive digital ads (45 feet by 13 feet each) grab passersby attention with their bold visuals and fun, light-hearted messages that encourage visitation to Philadelphia this spring and beyond from the key (and convenient) feeder market of New York. Additional advertising appears in the north end of the station. The ads will run through April 16, 2023, with additional placements planned for later in the year.
The Creative Executions:
The Moynihan Train Hall creative features Philly’s own fun take on its food scene, arts and culture offerings and historic attractions and pairs them with glowing accolades from trusted publications (Travel + Leisure, Vogue and USA Today) that people often rely on when making travel decisions. Collectively, the creative unit shows off a different side of Philadelphia that New Yorkers and others may not be aware of.
Lines include:
- Come for Rocky. Stay for Renoir. (Promoting the Barnes Foundation)
- Come for the Bell. Stay for the strings. (Promoting the Philadelphia Orchestra)
- Ben was awesome, but let’s be real, Betsy was the real badass. (Promoting Women’s History Month)
- Modern, elevated cuisine, or as we call it, damn fine food. (Promoting Philadelphia’s culinary scene)
- Philly’s kind of a drag, and we’re okay with that. (To come on April 1, 2023, promoting Philadelphia’s LGBTQ scene)
“We wanted to go big with this campaign right out of the gate, and there’s no better place to do that than in New York City’s shiny new Moynihan Train Hall. Philadelphia appears there among major national and international brands,” said Neil Frauenglass, chief marketing officer, Visit Philadelphia. “We are confident about the awesomeness of Philadelphia and the experience it offers, and our ads convey that. Philadelphia is ready to welcome visitors to come explore our great American city this year and in the years leading up to our country’s 250th birthday.”
The Media Buy:
More advertising will continue to pop up in New York, Washington, DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia in the weeks and months to come. The media mix, developed with USIM, includes out-of-home advertising, digital display ads, social media executions, print ads, radio and more.
“Seeing Visit Philadelphia’s new brand campaign in Moynihan Train Hall is extremely exciting,” said Melissa Sierra, EVP group strategy director, USIM. “By taking over the four dominant screens in this premiere media environment, Philadelphia’s messaging is sure to inspire visitation to their iconic destination to the millions of city dwellers, suburban commuters and visitors who pass through the space monthly.”
About The Campaign:
Visit Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau announced their first-ever joint destination-marketing campaign in January 2023. Developed by Philadelphia- and Boston-based agency Allen & Gerritsen (A&G), “Come for Philadelphia. Stay for Philly.” pairs lines that are funny, clever, confident and sassy (think of any Philadelphian) with bold, vibrant, compelling photography that shows off the spirit of the place and its people.
